Should You Have A First Look Before Your Wedding?
A ‘First Look’ is a fairly recent wedding trend in which the bride and groom see each other for the first time before the wedding. In fact, most brides we talk to have never heard of a first look. It seems to be something couples don’t really think about until we ask them. In case you’re unfamiliar yourself, the First Look is usually done in a private moment with just the couple and the videographer and photographer. It allows for most of the pictures to be taken before the ceremony so you can quickly join your guests at the reception. The question is, is a first look right for you? Here are our top three Pros and Cons on First Looks:
1.) A first look is private so you get a few minutes, just the two of you to really look at each other. As much as your try to slow your wedding day down it will fly by, a first look is a few quiet minutes designed for the two of you to just be together and take it all in. We find that it’s often a mixture of shock and awe for the groom, and a time for the couple to catch up since they haven’t seen their best friend all day.
2.) You spent months planning the perfect wedding and reception. So do you really want to be out taking pictures just as your guests are starting to enjoy the signature cocktail and delicious hors d’oeuvres you thoughtfully picked out? Get in on the party from the start by having a majority of the pictures out of the way.
3.) On your wedding day you will have a few nerves or butterflies in your stomach. What calms you more than the love of your life? Having a minute to talk, laugh together and cry together without 100 people staring at you will be just what you need to relax a bit.
1.) Not having a first look allows your guests to be included in the big moment when you first see each other. You’ve invited the people you care most about in the world; why not include them in one of the most special moments of your life.
2.) In all the pictures of you as a couple on your wedding day, you’ll actually already be married to each other instead of just a picture of you engaged right before your wedding.
3.) Anticipation, might make moment more special. While many couples who partake in a first look say that it didn’t take away from the first time they saw each other in the wedding and that the bride walking down the aisle was just as special, there is really only one way to know.
At the end of the day, you have to make the right decision for you as a couple. We hope this list helps you figure out just what that is.
